Less than two hours after its release in the UAE, one unit hit a popular classifieds website at a premium of nearly Dh1,500
Some handsets are going for a whopping Dh10,500 on classified websites as resellers try to capitalize on the iPhone 14 frenzy.
On the well-known marketplace Dubizzle, one vendor has listed the gold iPhone 14 Pro Max 1 TB at this price. It is only Dh6,799 at retail, according to the official Apple website.
Less than two hours after being on sale in the UAE, a brand-new iPhone 14 was also available for purchase at a premium price of around Dh1,500.
The iPhone14 Pro Max 256GB cost Dh6,500 instead of the Apple store’s original Dh5,099 pricing. The phone is supposedly only available today and is advertised as having been “Bought directly from Apple Store, with the receipt and full warranty.”
Since then, at least 30 advertisements for various phone models have been posted on Dubizzle.
All iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models are currently either sold out or booked at the Apple store in the Dubai Mall.
What resellers say
An unidentified reseller said that he had advertised his product for a premium of Dh1,000 and had drawn a lot of attention.
Some consumers are willing to pay whatever extra is necessary “simply to get their hands on the thing first,” he added. “I’ve been contacted by several people. I’m currently awaiting the person who will pay me first before we finalize the contract.
Another person claimed that he had already sold him but would not say how much. He remarked, “The customer was anxious to get his hands on the merchandise. So, as soon as I posted, he met me and bought it from me.
Earlier today, hundreds of customers waited in line at the flagship shop for more than four hours to purchase the recently released iPhone 14 and its variants.
