Abu Dhabi announces unified fares for all public buses; cost capped at Dh5 per journey

The transport administration of Abu Dhabi declared on Tuesday that all public buses operating within the emirate will have uniform fares. According to the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), the base bus price for both urban and suburban regions will henceforth be Dh2, plus 5 fils every km, with a Dh5 maximum.

According to the centre, a customer does not have to pay the Dh2 basic fee more than once while using various buses to reach his destination, whether it is from the city to the suburbs or back.

As per the ITC, the cost of the journey is determined by taking the passenger’s boarding destination and dropping them off at their last destination. It is paid by using the ‘Hafalat’ smart card at the conclusion of the ride.

But there are three requirements attached to the “free change of buses”:

  • The traveller has to switch buses within a fair amount of time.
  • The journey can only be finished with a maximum of three buses since the number of changes cannot be made more than twice.
  • The itinerary shouldn’t be altered to go in the other direction.
